Vintage Notes
The 2023 growing season began with abundant rainfall, restoring vital moisture into the vineyard soil. The refreshing, wet winter led to later bud break, protecting the vines from frost. A cool Spring extended the season’s slower pace through bloom. With ample moisture, the vines developed strong, healthy canopies that supported consistent ripening. Warm, steady summer days carried the fruit gently toward ripeness. The balanced conditions of the vintage allowed flavors and tannins to develop beautifully, resulting in wines with vibrant freshness, bright acidity, and a clear sense of minerality. Harvest began on September 18th with Merlot and progressed into Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varietals at a measured pace. This allowed each vineyard to be hand-picked at its peak and gave our winemakers the opportunity to capture the best expression of each site. On October 21st, harvest concluded with Cabernet Sauvignon from the Walnut blocks in the Pritchett Hill vineyard.
Tasting Notes
The 2023 Rubicon reveals a core of blackcurrant, fresh Damson plum, and blackberry delivering both richness and vibrancy. Flavors are deep and layered, with a weight that brings depth without heaviness. Hints of vanilla from well-integrated oak round out the mid-palate. The wine finishes with a persistent, long, and lifted finale that is graceful yet enduring, leaving traces of dark fruit and spice that linger elegantly.
