In 1975, Francis Ford Coppola purchased the historic Inglenook property, intent on restoring the estate’s legacy of creating world-class wines equal to those that founder Gustave Niebaum and his grandnephew John Daniel Jr. made for decades. Rubicon, the estate’s premier wine since 1978, is produced from the best estate grown fruit, including the historic Gustave Niebaum Cabernet Sauvignon selection, which was first planted on the property in the 1880s.
VintageRainfall in winter and spring of 2017 was bountiful, totaling nearly 50 inches. These conditions allowed for a smooth transition into bloom and fruit set. The beautiful organicallyfarmed fruit used to produce the Inglenook 2017 Rubicon came from select vineyard blocks on our estate. We harvested Merlot on August 31st, began harvesting Cabernet Sauvignon on September 5th, and concluded with Cabernet Franc on September 28th. The fruit showed balanced acidity across the board, which created a compelling freshness in the final blend.
