2017 Niebaum - Pennino Primitivo

2017 Niebaum-Pennino Primitivo   -   Lizzano, Puglia, Italy 

The 2017 Edizione Pennino Primitivo was sourced from deep within the highly acclaimed southern Puglia DOC of Primitivo de Manduria, the only Italian region specializing in the production of this grape variety. Warm, arid growing conditions favor the production of darkly colored, full-bodied, red wines. Traditionally, Primitivo is paired with roasted, braised, and stewed meats and aged cheeses.

Tasting Notes:

Deep garnet red in color, the 2017 Primitivo is alluring, with dense notes of balsamic, clove, blackberries, plums, and black licorice. A silky mouthfeel overlays a firm, ripe underlying tannic structure.  With warming on the palate, there is a hint of Mediterranean herbs – rosemary and sage - that emerges, as the wine coalesces into a long, seamless, and elegant finish.

Aging: 12 months in French oak barrels, 30% new

Alcohol: 14.7%
