Here's the unique story: agate is created inside lava streams. When hardened, the bubbles form within the lava. As water flows through the bubbles, it rises and forms depositing silica. Each movement results in the rings found in the agate surface. Colors vary due to traces of minerals found in the water such as iron, manganese, and titanium.
